If you’ve ever looked at the Midtown schedule and wondered, “Should I be taking Hot Pilates or Bikram Yoga?”, our answer is simple:

Why choose? Do both.

While Hot Pilates and Bikram Yoga are both practiced in a heated room, they challenge your body in very different ways. And that’s exactly why we believe they complement each other so well.

At Midtown, we intentionally offer a variety of both Hot Pilates and Bikram Yoga classes every week. It’s not because we think you need to choose one over the other. It’s because we believe your body benefits from both.

Hot Pilates: Build Strength

Hot Pilates is a full-body workout focused on controlled, intentional movement. You’ll challenge your core, build muscular endurance, work on stability and balance, and leave feeling like you’ve really put your muscles to work. It’s a great option when you want to focus on strength, control and muscular endurance. And yes, it’s challenging. But the goal isn’t simply to make you sweat. The movements are designed to challenge your muscles and help you build strength over time.

Bikram Yoga: Move, Stretch & Reset

Bikram Yoga is a completely different experience. The 90-minute series takes you through 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in a heated room. You’ll work on balance, concentration, mobility and flexibility while challenging your body and mind to stay present.

Where Hot Pilates asks your muscles to work hard through controlled movement, Bikram gives you an opportunity to work on mobility, flexibility, balance, breath and mental focus. And that difference is exactly what makes the two practices work so well together.

Strength + Mobility = A Better Balance

Think about it this way:

Hot Pilates makes you stronger.
Bikram helps you move better.

One challenges your muscles through strength and endurance. The other challenges your body through sustained postures, balance, mobility and flexibility. When you regularly practice both, you aren’t constantly asking your body to do the same thing. You’re giving it different ways to move, work and adapt. That’s important because fitness isn’t just about being strong. It’s also about being able to move well, maintain mobility, develop balance and control, and feel comfortable in your body.

You Don’t Have to Pick a Favourite

We often hear people say they’re a “Pilates person” or a “Bikram person.” And while it’s completely normal to have a class you especially love, you don’t have to limit yourself to one. Maybe Hot Pilates is the class that makes you feel strong and accomplished, while Bikram is the class that helps you slow down, stretch and challenge yourself in a completely different way. Or maybe you discover that you love both for different reasons.

That’s the goal.

How Can You Combine Both?

There’s no perfect formula, and your schedule and goals will always determine what works best for you. But incorporating both into your week can be a great way to create balance. Or maybe you take two Bikram classes and one Hot Pilates class one week, then switch it up the next. The important thing is that you’re giving your body opportunities to work on different things. And you don’t have to take four classes a week to benefit. Even adding one class from the other practice can make a difference in your routine.

Why We Offer So Many of Both at Midtown

There’s a reason you’ll see so many Hot Pilates and Bikram Yoga classes on our schedule each week, we want you to have options. More importantly, we want you to have the opportunity to build both practices into your routine. Our schedule is designed so you can come in and work hard with Hot Pilates one day, then come back for Bikram Yoga and focus on mobility, balance, breath and flexibility another day. They serve different purposes, and together, they create a more well-rounded practice.

You don’t have to choose between being strong and being mobile. You don’t have to choose between a challenging workout and a practice that challenges your focus and flexibility. You can have both. So the next time you’re looking at the schedule trying to decide whether to book Hot Pilates or Bikram Yoga, maybe the answer is: Book both. Your body will thank you for giving it the variety it needs.
