What Happens When You Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time to Start?

There’s always a reason to wait. Maybe work is too busy. Maybe the kids’ schedules are all over the place. Maybe you want to get a little more in shape before trying a class. Maybe you’ll start when things calm down, when you have more time, when Monday comes, when September starts, when January comes...

We’re really good at waiting for the perfect time. But the perfect time rarely shows up. Sometimes, you just have to start exactly where you are.

You don’t need to be strong enough for Pilates. You don’t need to know the postures before coming to yoga. You don’t need to have a certain level of fitness. And you definitely don’t need to know anyone when you walk through the doors at Midtown. You just need to show up.

Starting can feel uncomfortable

Trying something new can be intimidating. Walking into a new studio, taking a class you’ve never tried, or wondering if everyone else will know what they’re doing can be enough to keep you from going. But everyone has a first class. Everyone has walked into somewhere new and wondered what to expect. And most people discover that the hardest part was simply getting through the door.

You don't have to change everything

Starting doesn't have to mean committing to a completely new lifestyle. It can be one class. One hour for yourself. One morning where you choose to move instead of hitting snooze. One evening where you leave work and come straight to class. Sometimes one small decision is enough to get things moving.

Then something starts to change

You start recognizing the teacher. You start seeing the same people in class. You learn the movements. You notice that something that felt difficult a few weeks ago feels a little more familiar. You start making time for yourself instead of waiting for time to appear. And eventually, showing up doesn't feel like something you have to convince yourself to do. It just becomes part of your life.

There will never be a perfect time

Life will always be busy. There will always be another week, another deadline, another reason to wait. So instead of asking, “Is this the perfect time to start?” Maybe ask:“What if I just start now?”

You don't need to know exactly where it will take you. You just need to take the first step.

We'll see you at Midtown.
