Loving Kindness Meditation: Increase Your Agility in Relating to Others
Try this meditation to help you become more aware of yourself and how you relate to another person, cultivating awareness and compassion. Monique Valcour, PhD, coach, professor, and keynote speaker addresses issues from various directions, and this one is from the inside out. The meditation may assist in smoothing relations that you associate with frustration and resentment, where emotions may narrow your focus and affect your interactions.
1) Think of yourself
May I be safe, may I be happy, may I be healthy, and may I be free from suffering.
2) Think of someone who has cared deeply for you, such as a close friend or colleague
May you be safe, may you be happy, may you be healthy, and may you be free from suffering.
3) Think of someone you have difficulty with. What emotions and thoughts first arise, and are they negative? If so, start with a bridge
You have hopes, just like me.
You have fears and anxieties, just like me.
You have known suffering, just like me.
You wish to be happy, just like me.
Now:
May you be safe, may you be happy, may you be healthy, and may you be free from suffering.
Close your meditation to go on with your day, carrying goodwill and intention.
Namaste,
-Rebecca C
